Pagination is fundamental to Script Formatting

As all screenwriters should know, the way that the contents of your script are paginated is a fundamental feature inherent in all script editors.

Windows & Orphans

Certain types of paragraphs will never be orphaned (left by themselves) at the bottom of a page. This includes character names and scene headings, and it should make perfect sense that, for example, a character name should not be separated from that character’s dialogue. Additionally, it makes little sense to have a scene heading at the bottom of a page while the contents of that scene (action and dialogue) begin on the next page.

Paragraph Splitting

Of course, often a large paragraph, usually Action or Dialogue, should be split up so there are not large blank areas at the bottom of a page, which would happen if we just moved it all to the stay together on a single page.
